Child and Youth Care Organization (CYCO) is a local non-governmental organization committed to promoting access to quality education, healthcare, gender equality, and environmental protection, while strengthening resilient, inclusive, and peaceful communities in the Democratic Republic of Congo. At the heart of our work is community journalism, which we use as a powerful tool to inform, engage, and empower communities. We believe in the power of media to influence positive change in community behaviors, challenge harmful social norms, amplify local voices, promote accountability, and encourage communities to take action on issues that affect their lives. We work closely with children, young people, women, families, schools, community leaders, local media, and other partners to identify community priorities, address challenges, strengthen local capacities, and create opportunities for vulnerable and underserved communities to thrive. Through community-led action, storytelling, media engagement, education, healthcare initiatives, gender equality, environmental action, and youth participation, CYCO seeks to ensure that communities have the knowledge, voice, skills, and opportunities they need to build a safer, healthier, more inclusive, resilient, and peaceful future.
CYCO is committed to helping rural and underserved communities in North and South Kivu overcome the digital divide and gain access to reliable, affordable, and sustainable internet connectivity. In many remote communities, limited or unreliable internet access restricts people’s ability to access education, health information, public services, markets, digital tools, and opportunities for learning and economic development. It also limits their ability to communicate, share their experiences, and make their voices heard beyond their immediate communities. CYCO works with community leaders, local organizations, media outlets, technology partners, and other stakeholders to identify connectivity challenges and promote practical solutions adapted to the realities of rural communities. Our approach includes supporting community connectivity initiatives, promoting digital literacy, raising awareness about the importance of internet access, and advocating for better and more inclusive digital infrastructure. By expanding access to the Internet, CYCO seeks to help rural communities connect, learn, access opportunities, share their stories, and participate more actively in the digital world.
CYCO believes that the challenges facing communities in Eastern DRC require collective action and strong partnerships. We welcome NGOs, donors, foundations, media organizations, government institutions, private-sector actors, technology partners, and community organizations to collaborate with us.
